When I was seven years old my dad had been driving up a hill. A lorry had come down the hill and there it had a crash. My mum and my younger sister had been taken to hospital. My dad hadn't been injured and I had broken both my arms plus my left leg. It had taken me eight weeks to get better. My mum came out of the hospital but my sister stayed there for three months. All that put me off learning to drive. I got given a bike for my birthday when I was fourteen. I cycled to and from school.

I turn 17 this year. I am going tohave areally big birthday party with lots of presents. I want an Ipod, a laptop,an I-phone, andI want to start driving lessons. The first thing I have to do about driving(my mum says) is to find a driving school. It has to be a good driving school, that is approved by the dsa and has a high pass rate with reasonable prices. I think it will be quite easy to find a driving school to fit that criteria. I will ask some people at college which driving school or instructor they use, and go by their recommendations. This is make sure I choose a driving school with a good reputation. This will hopefully also mean that they have a high pass rate. The one problem with learning to drive is how much it costs. I am lucky though, because I am a girl. It is cheaper to get motor insurance for women than it is for men. This is good because it means that I will save money once I've passed my test, so if the lessons are abit expensive then it won't matter. I'm very excited about learning to drive. There are so many places that I want to drive to. I am going to go all over the UK visiting all my friends that will be going to university soon. I willwant a really cool car though. Not just some rubbish little 3-door thing. I want a proper lovelyfast car with a big engine and a gorgeous stream lined shape, and a soft roof. I will fill it with loads of coolthings. I will have a cd player and furry dice. I will also have seatcovers, and a fluffy coverfor the steering wheel. I might decide touse stencils to paint somecool designs on the outside as well. I will buy a sat-nav, andeveryone at college will think I have the coolest car! I will have enough money to buy this amazing car brand new. I will get the money by working really hard at the part time job that I have in Tesco. I work 9 hours a day on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. I got the job so I could earn money for the driving lessons, the driving test, the car and the insurance. First of all though, I'm going to have to go and find a driving school. It shouldn't be that hard. Everyoneelse at college hasmanaged it!

I was nervous for my driving practical. Who wouldn't be? It was pretty well the day that you transitioned into adulthood with your first truly "adult" skill; provided that you pass. And if you didn't, you'd have those exorbitant driving lessons prices hanging over your head as you either took more lessons or tried again. Obtaining your driver's licence is every kid's dream. Everyone wants to be the cool kid who drives to school in their new souped up ride. From the 60s to the 90s to the present day, young drivers who own their own cars are immediately branded as cool, especially if they drive them to school.
